Comparative Silence

I was thinking the other day about the surge of lay interest in academic analysis of popular communication that surfaced in the US from roughly 2003-2006. Some of the discussions that took place on weblogs during that timeframe were notably insightful, and have now almost completely dropped off the Internet. I’m not sure how to describe the comparative silence of the present, but I imagine it would be of interest to social scientists.
